Weddings at St Sebastian's

Congratulations on Your Engagement!

Many couples marry in their own local church, but we understand that St Sebastian's church may be special to you even if you don’t live in the parish. Changes in the law in 2008 made it easier to get married in a parish church if you can show just one of the following connections:

  • Either of you were baptised or prepared for confirmation in the parish.
  • Either of you has ever lived in the parish for six months or more
  • Either of you has at any time regularly attended public worship in the parish for six months or more
  • Either of your parents has lived in the parish for six months or more in their child’s lifetime
  • Either of your parents has regularly attended public worship there for six months or more in their child’s lifetime
  • Either of your parents or grandparents were married in the parish.

Your wedding next steps...

Contact the Parish Office by email (stsebsgonerby@gmail.com), or by phone 07916164425.
Please include a contact telephone number.

Assuming the qualifying requirements are OK, then a date for the marriage can be provisionally booked, and a preliminary meeting can be arranged. For this meeting, please bring along the completed “Welcome Form”, your £50 deposit, and a means of identification - a current passport or equivalent - birth certificate etc)

Then...

Early in the year of your wedding you will be offered either an evening or Saturday morning meeting with the Rector for a seminar on married life, and to discuss the details of your wedding day. This is usually conducted with two other couples.

At this first meeting the date for the formal walk-through of the ceremony will be agreed. This is usually arranged to be within the last 2 weeks before the marriage.
